    DECONSTRUCTION - 1994 - 95

In this work I set out to divest my subject matter of folktales and narratives and the Commedia dell'arte trappings of The Buffoons and The Fools, and to instead deconstruct the figure as a symbol. Part of that thinking was reflected in my process, which involved creating the figures utilizing a specific formula. They were adapted “warts-and-all” from their studies. Or more exactly, gestural anomalies, or anatomical idiosyncrasies in the sketch work were directly copied, rather than ignored or improved upon when recreating the figures on canvas, in the hopes of capturing any or all symbolic expression from my hand, both conscious and unconscious.

This body of work also saw another performance of tableaux vivants in the same mold as those created for The Fools.
