My main interest in creating this work lay not in the unexpected medium, but in the challenge of limited palettes, something I enjoy. Unfortunately, these drawings were produced in succession, and the repetitive motion from filling vast areas with cross-hatching, hard against hard, hour after hour, caused me nagging carpal tunnel pain for years afterward.
The two drawings, alt.fan.jesus-christ and Brick Tower utilize a collage effect that is not detectable in a reproduction. Areas of the drawing are executed on affixed layers of paper to promote a subtle diorama effect. For instance, the central figures onstage of alt.fan.jesus-christ are drawn on the bottom layer of paper, while the curtains are cut out and drawn on a separate layer and the audience is cut out and drawn on a top layer.
